On a trip to Italy a few years ago, while in Rome, I was taking pictures of the golden light on the buildings when this couple came running towards each other in the most joyful, beautiful embrace I’ve ever seen all right in my already positioned camera lens. When I looked back at the photo I got chills. It was like a scene that was scripted for a movie. But it was completely unscripted- pure, real, and spontaneous love. Painting this gave me deja vu- it made me feel like I was back in Italy again walking the streets of Rome, the air full of romance.

I have always loved writing and wanted to find a way to combine it with my paintings. - Blackout poetry allowed me to create something beautiful out of a page in a book, out of a piece of life: Blackout the noise and leave behind the poetry. Remember the beautiful moments and savor them and make them stay with us. Most times those moments are unexpected.
